Safeguarding Policy

Purpose and Scope
This policy sets out Cogent Language's commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all mentees. It applies to all mentoring engagements and to all interactions between mentees and Cogent Language.
Professional Boundaries
Cogent Language is a sole operator business. All mentoring is conducted by its owner. Cogent Language is committed to maintaining clear and appropriate professional boundaries in all mentoring relationships, and will at all times conduct engagements with respect, integrity, and professionalism.
Cogent Language reserves the right to terminate a mentoring engagement immediately if professional boundaries are breached by either party.
Confidentiality and Its Limits
Cogent Language treats all mentee information with strict confidentiality. However, confidentiality is not absolute. Cogent Language may be obligated to disclose information where required by law, where there is a credible risk of serious harm to the mentee or to others, or where a court or regulatory authority orders disclosure.
Wellbeing and Referral
Cogent Language is not a counseling, therapeutic, or crisis intervention service. Mentees experiencing significant personal or emotional difficulties are encouraged to seek appropriate professional support. Where a mentee discloses a situation suggesting serious risk of harm, Cogent Language will respond with care and, where appropriate, suggest referral to relevant professional or emergency services.
Concerns and Complaints
Cogent Language takes all mentee concerns seriously. Most concerns relating to service quality or unmet expectations are best addressed through our Refund and Cancellation Policy, which is set out in the Mentoring Service Agreement. Mentees with such concerns are encouraged to refer to that policy in the first instance.
Where a concern relates to the conduct of Cogent Language and cannot be resolved through the refunds process, or where a mentee feels that a serious safeguarding issue has arisen, Cogent Language encourages the mentee to seek independent legal advice or to contact appropriate authorities in their own jurisdiction.
